2014 Projects - Jaybird Quilts Snack Time Sample
I started this quilt top at a retreat in Burrawang in September 2013.I decided to make a sample and farm the work out to my quilting group by way of a friendship block.
I decided to make a lap sized quilt using Jaybird Quilts Snack time Pattern.
Cutting was an absolute pleasure. I used the Hex N More ruler from Jaybird Quilts and simply cut a stack of 4.5" strips from Moda Bella Solids White (hexagons and triangles) and cut my half hexagons from a V&Co Jelly Roll called Simply Style. I only needed one Jelly Roll.
Assembling Blocks
I must say that all the girls at my quilting group, the Barn Quilters of Mosman, thoroughly enjoyed making this block. The instructions in the pattern were very detailed and all the pieces fit together perfectly. It is a very cleverly constructed quilt.
I have ordered some backing fabric and am going to pick up some wadding tomorrow. The intention is to put it all together over the weekend. I might be overly optimistic. However, I have a deadline as we need to show all our 2013 Friendship Quilts at our March meeting.
As you may know, my mother passed away about 15 months ago. I brought her Bernina 130 Activa back with me from South Africa. I had it serviced 6 months ago and it have not been brave enough to set it up and use it. Last weekend the light on my own machine blew and I had to take it in for a service. So yesterday, I bought 2 new feet - 1/4" foot and a walking foot as mom's machine is at least 15 years younger than mine and typically Bernina had changed the shank.
So, it is all set up and ready to go. Just got to work it out as it is a lot more modern than the basic machine I have been using for years! Will update you on how I get on.
